rotational hitting

Posted by: Carl Brobst (cwbrobst@aol.com) on Mon Jan 13 11:20:15 2003

I have been playing baseball for 20 years. I have always been the type of guy who could hit line drives and occasional homeruns, but never have really reached the potential I exhibit in batting practice. I am pretty well sized (6-1 210 lbs) and an above average athlete with well above average strength. I always practiced and employed the Lau (linear as you call it) technique of hitting (it was taught to me in high school) and it seemed to make sense in maximizing bat speed.
For a time I was successful with it.
A few years ago I bough The Science of Hitting, out of frustration, and I will admit rotational hitting is the best way to hit for power. You dont feel like you are swinging as hard, but the results I have encountered are definitely positive. I can also handle the inside pitch (always my crux) with authority now (because my hips are out of the way).
Your site and articles are the best I have read on the web. BETTER THAN WILLIAMS' BOOK! One negative response I have read states that "my sons are going to be pros" and claims they are going to get there using other techniques than you describe. I can say this: If his sons are great athletes and have played ball all of their lives, they probably can succeed other than rotational techniques- and good luck to them! But I can claim that in an effort to better myself, I tried rotational hitting and it has helped me become more consistent, confident, and powerful.
And I will admit I had doubts and felt awkward swinging that way at first. Now I can hit my way out of a paper bag!
