I don't believe that batters have to apply forces with their hands to move the bat barrel into a position from from which they can apply positive (toward the contact point) force. When batters first begin to rotate their bodies, while keeping their hands close to their back shoulders, the bat barrel will move into this position.

That is what I demonstrated. Yes, shoulder rotation alone will cause the bat-head to accelerate rearward from the pendulum effect. However, adding torque (THT) to the pendulum effect produces much greater acceleration.
