Rotational for the Young Hitters?

Posted by: Red Dog (gwils@brdwlaw.com) on Tue Jun 22 09:01:32 2010

My son is a Junior in high school and we changed him from a linear hitter to a rotational hitter when he was 13 years old. From age 8 thru 12 hit worked on linear mechanics. We worked on hand path from point A to B, loading the hands over the back foot, head on the ball, short to the ball and long through the ball and balance. At age 13, we changed over to rotational mechanics. The transition took about 6 months and he was old enough to understand the program. He now hits totally rotaional and has developed a very solid swing over the past three years. I notice a number of the Post are talking about younger players and I was just wondering if they are old enough and strong enough to use rotational mechanics or are you just wasting their time and causing confusion. I don't know of one Little League coach that teaches rotaional mechanics nor one that understands the concept. Jack I would love to hear your opinion and your experience with teaching younger kids the rotational mechanics. One last comment, in high school ball rotational mechanics will set you apart from the linear guys and you will excell hitting a mid-eighties fast ball.
