Help with over rotation of back foot

My almost 10 year-old son has developed a recent tendency to over rotate his back foot when swinging, to the point where his back side collapses and he loses balance. I'd estimate the foot has turned 50-55 degrees from its correct starting point at contact.

Any advice on what causes this and what can be done to fix the problem would be appreciated.
