Geometry was my worst subject in high school. My son is actually rotating his foot beyond 90 degrees to about 100-110 degrees and he falls backward. I can't figure out how to solve the problem without messing up his otherwise good rotational mechanics.
Sorry for the confusion.
My almost 10 year-old son has developed a recent tendency to over rotate his back foot when swinging, to the point where his back side collapses and he loses balance. I'd estimate the foot has turned 50-55 degrees from its correct starting point at contact.

Take a look at some of the batters at http://www.youthbaseballcoaching.com/swings.html and see if he rotates his heel past their position.
