Re: Help with over rotation of back foot

Posted by: mark (mark@tulsasilverhawks.com) on Fri Dec 31 18:48:21 2004

My almost 10 year-old son has developed a recent tendency to over rotate his back foot when swinging, to the point where his back side collapses and he loses balance. I'd estimate the foot has turned 50-55 degrees from its correct starting point at contact.

lbj,

It's hard to say for sure but one thing to look at is his front foot. With the stride make sure the front foot does not open to far, should be more closed when landing. The reason I suggest looking at the front foot is if it opens to far it is easier to over rotate the back heel past 90 degrees. what I mean by front foot open to far is if it is pointing straight to the pitcher to third base (for RH batter), should be more toward the right side of the field to pitcher.
