I wrote a letter to Dodgers' minor leaguer Andy LaRoche (a SS/2B who, for those who don't know, is LA's 7th best prospect) about a variety of subjects, and in his reply, he said in High School he used to swing a weighted bat, then swing a fungo bat to improve his bat speed. I'm aware of the weighted-bat phenomenon and how it's misleading, but I'd like to get your opinions on this suggestion.

This is a standard overload/underload training excercise which can be very productive when implemented correctly.
