Re: Amount of Bat Cock

Many great hitters cock the bat quite a bit. However, I quickly found four great hitters who did not: Williams, Dimaggio, Musial and Ernie Banks. Following are clips of three of these players. All hit for power and average, with few strikeouts. Any thoughts on this? Nick

Nick-

I think an earlier back scap load that centers the bat makes for a shorter quicker swing as in Bonds and Ruth.

In any case yo have to create body separation ending with a last quick stretch and reversal of coil(x factor and xfactor stretch in golf terms).Heavy bats and a bog weight shift forward with a sizeable stride alone will create good coil/uncoil,but I think this may lengthen the swing either through requiring more separation or a longer swing radius. In this sense,Ruth and Aaron might have shorter quicker swings than these, evn though they also had the heavy bats.

Nice clip of Ruth in this classic setpro thread with nice back arm sequence and pronounced back scap load/pinch:
