Re: Swinging a Heavier Bat to Increase Bat Speed

Posted by: Dave () on Mon Aug 25 16:15:20 2003

HI

Overload training is the technique that you would be incorporating has been proven to increase the throwing velocity in pitchers but I have not seen one study that would improve the bathead speed with your swing. I can tell you that in theory that it should work HOWEVER swinging a heavier bat can also create mechanical changes in a swing if the bat is too heavy for the individual. I would suggest that a bat ring is too heavy of an object to use. I would look at either finding a bat that is one to two ounces heavier or using lead tape on your bat to increase the wieght would also work.
