What is gifted?

Posted by: Mac (Doug5@cwnet.com) on Sun Jan 12 11:07:56 2003

Havingtwo sons that have earned baseball scholarships to quality D1 schools, I learned a few things along the way. One ended up pitching in college and the youngest is a freshman. Both are big and strong with talent and good work habits. Why did one struggle as a hitter and the other excel? They both had the same hitting coach and both worked hard at hitting.
The reasons that I came up with are up for debate.1. fear at the plate 2. balance and coordination 3. patience at the plate 4. confidence at the plate 5. overall athletic ability.
Both were/are rotational hitters, taught the same way. Some are gifted and some are not. If the gifted one is taught well and works at it, he just gets better and can go on to the next level to play. The other one needs to find another way (pitching) to move to the next level. Just my thoughts on two boys that I love very much. Mac>>>
