"Let the rear elbow do whatever."

While I agree that you can put too much emphasis on the rear elbow, I think that letting it do "whatever" is going too far.

If you look at the best hitters in the world, when they hit a ball well their rear elbow is never too far from their side through the point of contact. Among other things, this helps to keep their hands in close to their body which maximizes the rate at which their torso rotates.
