There have been other discussions on this topic over the months and years on this duscission board. The short answer is "hitting down" is not an advantageous swing practice, unless you are purposefully trying to hit a ground ball for situational reasons in a game.

Your best bet for distance/power is to meet the flight path of the ball with a similar bat swing path. By swinging down on the ball you reduce the amount of time the bat and the ball are on the same path, thus you reduce the opportunity for solid contact.
