Good points. The position of the hands has a direct bearing on the acceleration (and direction) of the bat-head as the swing is being initiated. The greater the acceleration rate of the bat-head, the greater the work load for shoulder rotation and thus the greater the seperation.
The more forward the hands, the more likely the knob is accelerated forward rather than the bat-head being accelerated rearward. Accelerating a static bat forward offers a much lower workload for shoulder rotation to overcome and thus induces less separation.
