why force lower half

Posted by: mike (yanks4321@aol.com) on Sat Sep 2 10:05:05 2006

I dont understand why everyone stresses to force your lower half of your body into your swing. Even on this website it says legs first. But I dont get. I definently am not saying that I disagree what this website teaches, but I just dont understand it. Even Tony Gywnn said, "Alot of guys try to force their lower body thru the zone, and you dont have to. All you have to do is get in a good position take the bottom hand and pull it thru and guess what, the rest of it just goes." Can someone tell me that if Tony Gwynn, one of the best hitters ever, is telling us that we dont have to force the lower body into the swing, then why are we saying that we have to? I would really appreciate it if you could help me out.

If you want to know where I got the quote from Tony Gwynn, go to this website:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/gallery/bonds/flash.htm

On the bottom of the picture, click the Bonds Home Run Swing link and then it starts the swing. Then on the bottom, click Gwynn's Analysis of the Swing. Then on frame 6, that is when Tony Gwynn talks about what I have wrote in this post.
