(What? If you mean perfectly vertical as in 12-6, well, nobody really tries to throw perfectly vertical backspin. It's just not that important. Trying to get perfect usually costs you speed and spin. If you are saying no one throws a 60+ or even 50+ riseball, well... Cat throws hers near 60 and she is not considered all that fast. She just has the best movement. Michelle for instance throws faster than Cat. Of course the men throw much faster than the fastest women. So what do you mean?)

The only way to throw a vertical backspin underanded is with the palm down.

(You mean palm up.)

Don't forgot the basic nature of the physical movements that you are talking about. A 65-70 mph pitch with a vertical backspin cannot be done underhanded unless you use a machine.

(That would be pushing it for a woman. Even the fastest. Michelle might. She reportedly can throw low 70's on her fastball. Figure 2-5 mph loss on her movement pitches and she should be in the mid 60's anyway. I'll have to ask around.)

If there is a superhuman around somewhere who can do it, its not going to happen often enought to have an impact on the game of softball.

(If you are saying the riseball (whether on not it actually rises) doesn't have an impact on the game, guess again. I just got back from the gold qualifier in Katy Texas and I didn't see a game and probably not an inning where the riseball wasn't used successfully. In other words, a swing and a miss underneath.)

(Math can be used to try to predict or explain the behavior of the ball. Backspin 50+ pitches get thrown constantly in high level girls fastpitch. You can't use a calculator to deny that. I'm not trying to hammer you, but I think it's obvious you are making statements and assumptions based on little or no practical knowledge or field research.)

(Which half?)

but I did learn something from your comments.

(What did you learn?)
