front foot

My high school daughter has a coach that tells her after every at bat that she needs to keep her front foot closed. I have her steping to the ball of her front foot with her foot more open than closed. I believe this helps her with rotation of her hips. She steps in the same place every time. She is hitting rotationally and leading the team in hitting and extra base hits. Should her front foot be closed or slightly open? She does rotate on her front foot and of course her back foot.
