Re: Linear and rotation

The way I see it BHL is between rotation and linear,Teacherman is linear and Jack is full blown rotation all the way. From what I have seen at the college games most power hitters fit in with the Jack Mankin model. Nothing personal to BHL and Teacherman but I think anything less than 100 percent rotational is self defeating.

Hi Jay,

Please point out posts this year suggesting that I am somewhat linear. Perhaps what you mean to say is that I advocate rotational developmental mechanics, and linear transfer mechanics.

Well, I am starting to believe that Jack's mechanical analysis is almost flawless.

As for BHT and THT, we may need better definitions for these terms. Nyman, for instance, suggests BHT and THT may be the respective reactive forces of body rotation and inertia. As inaccurate as they might seem, the idea behind them has helped countless people, including me. Although Jack might think getting into a detailed example of torque application may inhibit the hitter's understanding of how to use it, the two terms need to be defined as what they are: the reactions to an action.

Nevertheless, one idea of his has really helped hitters: the use of a CHP when swinging the bat. In fact, up until a few years ago, I was 1ittle wary about Jack promoting a CHP. After browsing over some of Epstein's posts, though, I finally seem to have a conceptual grasp for what it is: "The path the hands take, tight to the body, as they rotate around their axis."

I might not agree with everything Jack says, but would be foolish to discount almost a decade of his research. The testimonials page shows how influentual the batspeed.com guru has been in helping others, including a middle-aged Chinese slugger, who used to be a "punch and judy" type hitter before using rotational methods. The slugger's praise certainly caught my attention.

Mechanically speaking, the only area I disagree with Jack is his "cues." This is why I use Mike's visual tips, and Jack's mechanics. Then, I check to see if have the correct contact position, featured in "The Final Arc II" booklet.

Tomorrow I will be away all day to see if Mike can break Fisk's home run record for a catcher, in addition to the added "treat" of watching the great Barry Bonds display flawless batting mechanics on the field.

Contrary to what you think, I agree with most of what you have to say!

Sincerely,
BHL

P.S. Keep writing--and show others (you are a prime example), as Roy and Dave point out, that we can have complete disagreement without resorting to smear tactics.

I admire your character.
