Hi Above&beyond

To understand why the lead-arm should not extend to contact, let us use the analogy of applying torque with a 4-prong tire wench. To loosen a tight nut, you would pull with the left-hand as you push with the right-hand (applying force from opposing direction = torque). -- Obviously, you would not extend the left-hand by straightening the arm as you attempt to pull with the hand.
