The angle of the body may be important in 2 ways

1-style of hitting as detailed by epstein.Upright axis for speedy contact type,tilted back for slower power hitter to hit the big fly,in between for power line drive types.

2-matching plane of pitch within each axis type requires setting the angle the torso rotates at by degree of bend at waist at launch,then maintaining what the golfer calls the "spine angle" through contact.
