This is a very open ended question. I think that in general the higher the bats peed the more differential you would see in metal vs wood due to the trampoline effect. Not much difference with the bat speed of a nine year old. My son did the following experiment for a science project a few years ago: hit a large sample of baseballs off a tee using a good metal bat and a wood bat. Threw out poorly hit balls. Measured the bat speed and the exit speed of the ball. If my memory serves me correct the exit speed of the balls hit with the metal bat were about 7% higher on average than those hit with the wood bat.
