First, define what a line drive is....
Most say level to the ground, which is also their definition of a level swing.
To me and many other experienced ball players who are literate in what they execute (as opposed to those who just produce what a good batting coach instructs them too) a line drive is a struck ball that travels back in the same plane (or close to it) it did to the plate.
A ball approaches the plate from high to low plane, so a line drive would have to be low to high. A level swing matches this plane of the pitched ball.
