release of top hand

I have noticed that kids who practice releasing the top hand get much better extension. The only draw back with some kids is that they release to early. My feeling on this is to practice the release but do not require it. Does anyone have any feedback.
P.S. The hitter to be successful in anything must be in a balanced workable stance, this is a must
