>Good rotation will NOT produce 52 mph swings. My daughter is 5'1", 115 lbs and has 70-75 mph batspeed. It is not size, it is technique. Rotation produces faster batspeed.
>
> I can tell you from experience that there are female athletes at the D1 level with good rotation and have 52 mph swings - - dry swings.
>
> And I find it hard to believe that a 5'1 115 lb. female has a 75 mph bat speed? And when he says that size and strength does not matter, it is all technique --that's BALONEY. Size and strength matters.
>
> Does anybody know what the bat speed is for D1 female college players? Surely, someone actually knows.
>
> I'm not here to talk about why someone is D1 or D3, that is not the issue -- we are her to talk HITTING and it is fair for people to ask and want to know what a good bat speed is for females - - why buy a machine that measures bat speed and then have no idea or reference point on where you are or where you are headed or what is the standard for measuring (if my girl is 52 mph and I am using a swing mate into a heavy bag is that different than you using Setpro on a full dry swing) SO how you measure, does that make a difference; when they say Bonds is over 100 mph, where does that come from and how do they measure it.
>
> How about for men - - are there bat speed guidelines and studies which document what a good bat speed is considering age, height, weight, etc.
>
> > I coach(hitting) two D1 players and a D3 player. One of the D1's and the D3 swing (DRY)over 80 consistently and are probably capable of 90.The other D1 swings in the low 70's and is capable of 75.The body type ,the weight, the work ethic as far as lifting etc...vary as do the swings of the three.
>
> Since you coach hitting and obviously you are doing something right if their bat speeds are in the 80's - - did they start out at 80 or did you help them peak out at 80? Then the next question is HOW did you help get them there; what drills or training regime do you do? If you helped your daughter who is 115lbs and 5'1" get to 75 mph then you need to share with us how you did it and what drills and system and strength training and pointers that got her to what I believe is beyond her potential. >Mike, My girls did not start in the 80's.They use a combination of Batspeed mechanics and setpro mechanics and they use the setpro over/under training method.Dry swings with a light bat,a heavy bat and their regular bat with feedback provided by a batspeed reading device which is on sale at setpro(a similar device is sold by batspeed)is the method the girls used to increase their speed by 15 to 20 mph.I think you are confusing myself and the original poster who has the 115lb daughter and that is probably my fault because my name is larry and I neglected to identify myself. All of my girls do weight training at school but their coaches know next to nothing about how or why you want to increase batspeed. They figure that you have it or you don't. These coaches worry whether you make contact, not how fast you swing.
