Torque vs. Coil

Help me understand the coil vs. torque in a rotational swing. Looking at Mike Epstein's site.... his animated graphic seems to show a coil prior to swing, and I believe he evn mentions a "rubber band effect" yet I thought Mr. Mankin suggests that this is not what you want to think of it as. What is the difference?
