Steve,

I would like to add that you need to be looking for too much pre-launch movement of the bat backwards instead of having the bat already back up enough before starting the swing. A lot of times the kids are not used to less time in moving the bat back and setting up their swing before swinging forward (a.k.a. CHP). It often wastes too much time and they swing way late because of it.

Also, be wary of batting cages. Just because they say 60mph does in no way mean they are really pitching at that. Take a good radar gun to tell you the truth so you can analyze the real situation and go from there.

And, it wouldn't surprise me at all if your "60 mph" is not really 55 mph, so you need to put a radar on those pitchers of interest and be careful of the cosine angle factor which best can be determined with a good radar gun and a cheap radar gun and a couple of people to help you on that particular field where the readings are taken.
