The hook effect refers to the last part of the circular hand path when the lead shoulder rotates back toward the catcher. When the lead should pulls back the bottom hand is pulled back by the lead shoulder, creating bottom hand torque and a "hook" in the circular hand path. This should happen before contact, otherwise its useless. The "105 position" refers to 105 degrees of rotation by the lead shoulder. 90 degree rotation would leave the batter facing the pitcher. The 105 position results from rotating 15 degrees past the "facing pitcher position". Its this last 15-20 degrees of rotation that produces bottom hand torque.
