I agree with you that teaching a hitter how to hit by breaking it down to the smallest detail makes it harder for the hitter. Simplify when possible. If it's a situation where we need to get into details with the hitter, we still have to explain that the details are a byproduct or happen due to some root cause somewhere in the swing. Much like you did when explaining THT.
