Question for Jack--Degrees of Hip Rotation

Posted by: BHL (Knight1285@aol.com) on Thu Apr 21 22:35:27 2011

Hi Jack:

By now, I've come to accept that we hold very different beliefs on transfereing mechanics. To be more precise, I am of the opinion that the whip effect transpires in a swing whereas you do not.

But, let us put our philosophical differences aside for a moment. I have some questions that I wish to ask you, and a response will be greatly appreciated. I am not necessarily stating that I will agree with the answers given--I just want to follow your mechanical credos in greater detail.

According the principles which you hold sacrosanct, batters rotate their hips 90 degrees on inside pitches, and 90 degrees on outside pitches. Nevertheless, this model, for me, is far too vague in view of the fact that there are actually nine places where a hitter can make contact with a ball.

I will make your task easier by providing you with a visual diagram to follow.

High Outside High Middle High Inside Batter

Middle Outside Midddle Middle Middle Inside RH Hitter

Low Outside Low Middle Low Inside Facing Pitcher

Based on this diagram, how much will the RH Hitter's hips rotate (i.e., 70 degrees or 90 degrees) if the ball were thrown to following nine locations.

1. High Outside
2. High Middle
3. High Inside
4. Middle Outside
5. Middle Middle
6. Middle Inside
7. Low Outside
8. Low Middle
9. Low Inside

Thanks in advance for your time, and have a wonderful Easter!

Best Wishes,
