Squishing the bug with the front foot
Hello everyone! I would like to start this month with a discussion on
squishing the bug with the front foot in order to facilitate proper
rotation. I have been teaching my boys to stride closed to 50/50
weight distribution and then pushing their front toe into the ground
as they rotate the heel back and straighten the front leg. At the
same time a little push from the back leg really seems to fire the
hips through. You can see their front ankle roll over on its side as
the bat comes through. I noticed that a lot of MLB players do this
also.
So my conclusion (I could be using false logic)......most coaches have
it backwards. Squish the bug with the front toe, not the back.
