The hook in the hand-path occurs as the lead-shoulder pulls the lead-hand back (away from the pitcher). This has nothing to do with “wrist-snap”. The wrist serves more as hinges than to actually generate bat speed.

Jack,

To help clarify my thinking about what you are saying, assume that in the stance the plane of the the shoulders and hips are on the same plane as the flight of the ball. So, as seen from above, the line of the ball is paralell to the line of the shoulders and hips. Assuming just for this example that the ball travels on a straight line.

As the lead shoulder is pulled off the line it forms an angle with the orginal line. For example, if the batter were to turn his shoulders so they square to the pitching rubber they would form a 90 degree angle with the orginal line.

I have two questions

What is the approxamate angles of the hips and shoulders an instant after the swing is started, well before contact? Say in the first 3 or 4 frames.

What is the approxamate angle of the hips and the shoulders at contact?

Thanks.
