Re: early swing problems

Posted by: Richard Schenck () on Tue Jun 11 11:38:55 2002

I am a 62 year old who recently started slow-pitch and am having a lot of problems with an early swing (I think). I seem to be lunging at the pitch way out in front of the plate and most of my hits now are slow grounders or weak pop-ups off the handle to third or short. I have been following the swing advice here and have been consistantly hitting nice line drives to left and left-centre using a batting tee. Are there any tips or advice on how to force yourself to wait on the pitch.

Just be glad that at 62 you are early for something!! Just kidding!! My only suggestion is think the other way. Thinking the other way doesn't mean the ball will go there but it will help you stay back. Also, decide before the pitch where you will swing and only swing if the ball crosses that point. If you match the plane of the pitch with the plane of your swing through that point (where a batting T would sit) you should have some success.
