Welcome to the site. – There is a bio-mechanical law that states; “A ballistic motion, once initiated, produces trajectories that can only be changed at its margins.” – In the baseball swing, this means that once a batter has fully initiated his swing, the bat’s trajectory has been determined and there is little the batter can do to alter it.

In order for the bat to arrive in the contact zone with the incoming ball, the batter must have finished his mental calculations and initiated the swing when the ball is about 12 to 15 feet from the plate. Even if his eyes were able to tract the ball the final few feet, there is little or nothing he can do to alter the bat’s path.
