Re: Jason Giambi

I understand now that when Jason Giambi came up to the majors in 1995 he was a 6 2 175 avg. hitter. now he is a 6 31/2 235 pound slugger who can still hit for a great avg. with all his bulk. i always thought he was fat but now i know. So to think without his bulk, and better "mechanics", would he be more or less of a hitter. Just last night i saw him destroy a pitch at Fenway to deep centerfield for a 3 run bomb, and i doubt without that strength he could of hit that high outside pitch over 430 ft. to straight away center.

there are so many many factors in hitting the ball hard & far...vision....rotational mechanics on the inside pitch...."linear" on the outside pitch....and yes, strength.....does anyone really think mcgwire would have hit the ball as hard without his upperbody strength?.....why do so many major leaguers spend so much time in the weight room?
