Ok, for what it's worth:

"Linear movement forward will move the "axis" represented by the spine, and if the axis moves with the fulcrum (i.e. the bat), there is no rotational torque, period."

That didn't sound "right".

The spine is the axis of rotation, and represents the "fulcrum", and the bat is the "lever" that depends on the fulcrum for support. If the axis/fulcrum moves forward with the lever, no rotational force is realized.
