Re: Swining Down at the Ball

Swinging down on a ball weither it is over hand or under hand is not what you want to to. It is not a powerfull position to be in and it will not allow you to square a ball properly.

At the point of contact, your barrell of your bat will be below your hands unless it is at the very top of the strike zone and then your barrell will be even with your hands.

Even if a ball is traveling on a upward plan, you still catch at the same point of contact as if it was traveling on a downward plan.

One thing I have a problem with about this forum is that linear hitting and rotational hitting are the same.

Linear just means through the baseball, and rotational hitting is the same, you still have to go through the ball to hit it properly.

rotational is different from the get movement back, seperated, and create leverage. This older style of hitting creates a lot of movement. rotational allows you to sit back which makes the pitch slows down, hit with your wieght back and allows you to let the pitcher produce all of the power for you, all you have to do is get in the correct position to hit it square.

Just because some one is called a rotational hitter, doesn't mean they spin on a ball, they are still linear, they just don't hit like ruth, Joe D., Gerhig, Ted Williams did.

You have to understand something also, those older guys swung 38-48oz bats. that had to get something back to get foward.

These days, players swing -2's to +4's.

Here is what I would recommend for your daughter, keep everything short and simple, make contact even with the inside of your stride knee. That will allow her to hit everything up the middle which is the biggest part of the field. Now if she is early, she will pull it and if she is late, she will go the other way.

Don't worry about linear or rotational. Keep your weight back, see the ball, make contact even with the inside of her knee on her stride foot. Keep it that simple. She is not going to do it everytime, and even when she does it, she is still going to get out. Don't stress on the hitting and the therioes so much.

Hit the ball up the middle. Keep it simple and she will figure it out or she won't, It's just a game in the end. It has taken me 3 years since leaving pro ball to understand that simple is better and it is just a game. Have fun and play hard.
