I have read Lau, Sr. but not Jr., and don't know Hudgens. So, I guess I've got more research to do.

No matter how "one-dimensional" a hitter may get, it must be easier to teach players to hit the ball in a potential 30 inch impact/contact zone, rather than a 3 inch zone. Second, as long as a player's hands move before his hips, timing his hips to break open at the right time (just before impact) will always be a problem. Seems that keeping the hands back longer simplifies timing immensely, not to mention giving the player a huge advantage on off-speed pitches (i.e. the hands commit later, so he can wait on the pitch).

As I've told others, I've been a student of hitting and hitting instructor for a number of years. I know linear mechanics. Two-thirds of the problems I work to correct with LM hitters are already solved by RM.
