Re: Rolling over the ball

The main reason for players rolling over on a ball is that the hands pass the center of the body prior to contact. This will typically happen on inside pitches since the swing is longer to pull a ball. The best way to explain this to a player that the hands can't pass the belly button until after contact. The hands will always roll over at that time. They have to, it's the way the body works. The hips must clear the contact point pivoting on the front leg. The back side swings into the zone, not the front pulling out of the zone. With this in mind watch Griffey’s swing. http://www.youthbaseballcoaching.com/mpg/Griffey01.mpeg
