Stance changes

Posted by: Dutch () on Sun Jun 10 20:35:35 2007

My son has a Bagwell type of stance with a very, very deep crouch and legs spread far apart. He hits the ball a long way for the tender age of nine. The longest in the league. I think that the stance helps generate torque somehow. He kind of uncoils at the ball. Several folks are telling me that the stance is not conducive to long term baseball success and that I should switch him to a more conventional stance while he's still very young. Some say that he rises slightly during his swing taking his head to a different plane. My son simply says he feels better in that stance. Any thoughts? Is it really a valid reason to overhaul this boy's swing?
