I agree.

The Oakland A's, and others who love On Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage (aka OPS), love guys who have power but aren't afraid to take walks.

IOW, your son already fits the profile of a major league hitter. That doesn't mean he's going to make it, but I certainly wouldn't encourage him to move away from this pattern.
