Hitting problem

My son is 9 yrs old and is having trouble swinging under the ball. If he does hit the ball it tends to be a fly ball. In the fall he hit over .800 but now he is not even able to get a bat on the ball on most occassions. What are some key metrics that I should look out for in order to correct this problem?
