Re: Fouling Balls Straight Back

> Jack (and others who want to respond) My son has recently started fouling alot of balls straight back. I am told that is usually a good sign but he seems to be doing it too often on the best pitches to hit. A few weeks ago I moved him back in the box and am know wondering could this be causing him to miss these pitches.

Charles. In my opinion, when this occurs the hitter is likely swing slightly late which is cause his bat to flow below the the ball. This often happens when the hitter is taking an aggressive cut but is too eager and harnesses to much effort before swinging. Or this also occurs when the hitter is facing above average pitching and his commitment to swing is taking place a tad to late. In such cases the hitter will likely benefit by taking a more relaxed swing toward the pitcher rather than trying to harnes a lot of power and overswing in his attempt to crush the ball. This takes discipline not to over swing on a fat pitch.
