Effectively pulling off the ball

Posted by: George () on Tue Apr 24 13:28:53 2007

I happened to notice on MLB.com how Ichiro combines linear hand work with a rotational sweep of his bat through the hitting zone. But his key is actually the use of his front leg by using an inward knee lift/turn to load his body before the swing. He then bails out but keeps his hands back long enough to still hit most pitches. His only trouble results when he is fooled by pitches or goes against above average fastballs with movement to the outside.
