Re: transition from drills to live pitching

I am ready to purchase the heavy bag. I just want to know the correct steps to become more rotational. I am not expecting to be 100% rotational because that is a lot to ask for but for right now I want to at least be more rotational then I currently am and really increase my batspeed naturally with mechanics.

Dave, I'm new to this myself, trying to convert my 12 y.o., and spent much time working the hvy. bag to learn the swing mechanic so I can teach it to him and some of the kids that I coach.

In my opinion, the hvy. bag is a brilliant way to teach and then practice/ maintain this method of hitting. It gives you a stop-frame picture of what you're doing prior to and at-the-moment of contact. When I take full dry swings-- no bag-- I'm never sure whether I'm lapsing or in some way not perfectly executing the rot. swing.
We played our first tourney this weekend, and after years of reminding my older son to keep his shoulder from "flying open", it was strange to be reminding his younger brother to pull the front side open prior to contact. Very strange.
Jack's rot. method has really cleaned up and improved his swing path, noticeably from last fall (when he hit well). But the new, improved batspeed we've found in the garage agst. the hvy. bag hasn't yet fully translated to games. But it will, soon, I'm confident.
