My experience is that little leaguers use their arms and hands to swing the bat rather than their shoulders/torso. My 8 yr old son
swinging a 31 oz bat had no problem pulling 30-40 mph pitches. It's all technigue.
A great (as my son learned last year)way to throw off your swing is to play whiffle ball. The light bat allows a hands/arms only swing. BTW a great way to practice your sons hitting is to swing a 31 oz bat. The heavey bat will show any flaws in the mechanics.
