Pop Ups to Right Side

Posted by: Jimmy (matheje@nu.com) on Wed Apr 4 08:27:13 2007

My son is 11. He is playing on an AAU team and playing LL. He's generally a great contact hitter but has fallen into a bad pattern. He's had some excellent instruction and in general his mechanics are praised by his coaches. (He's a right-handed hitter.)

Lately it seems he fouls too many pitches straight back and often hits weak pop-ups to 1B. Some of his swings also result in weak liners off the end of the bat.

One week he was ripping balls up the middle and toawrds left center in the cage. A week later he popped up 50% of his swings toward the right side, many of which would have been foul along the 1B line.

Any thoughts? He doesn't appear to drop the back shoulder (or raise the front shoulder). He's very frustrated at this point.
