have the batter stand as usual, instead of a bat, give him a 1st baseman mitt. He is going to keep the gloved hand in normal batting position. He will try to catch different zone pitches with a motion that will imitate hitting the ball with the mitt. If you teach the no stride approach, they can follow the ball trajectory easier.
