I'm a softball player and i use baseball techniques. I have found out that you don't have to be "meaty" to be a power hitter. I found out that using lighter bats will help with bat swings and the swing itself doesn't have to be fast. Making contact and using the right swinging techniques with a lighter bat can actually make the ball go further. Many heavier bats can affect a batters swing and can cause dipping of the back shoulder. Bat speed can be an issue if there is a slow pitcher or a fast pitcher which one would have to work on bat speed depending on that type of pitcher.
