First, I'm not convinced ESPN's readings are accurate (more on this later.)

Also, he uses a heavier bat (33 oz. vs. 31 for most.)

BTW, I was in Minnesota in the Metrodome for a game a few years ago, and saw Mark Whitten hit a ball I'm sure would have travelled way over 500 feet if it had been outside. So I don't think Mac has a monopoly on long balls. And, I saw Junior hit a ball 500 at Camden Yards (off a batting practice pitch.) And Sosa has hit some long shots.

We should also keep in mind that ball rotation plays a large role in distance.
