Torque Position

I was looking at Mr. Epsteins website and looking at the pictures of hitters in the torque position, front foot open at 45 degre angle,Mike explains it as hips open and shoulders back,he said the lower body pulls the upper body like a giant band, just as pitching, i was wondering in this if u would use the lead leg to pull, or is it to push, thanks
