Simpler put: CHP (Circular Hand Path) The hands follow the same circular path as the body's rotation. This serves two puposes, with the rear elbow tucked near the body, the batter can stay inside the ball, because the batter is generating energy (power) through the rotating body (circular) in order for this energy to be transferred correctly, the hands must follow this same circular path.

A train is moving straight ahead at 100 mph. If you thru a ball in the direction the train was moving, you would have the speed of the train plus the speed of the ball. However, if you thru the ball left or right of the train to any degree, you would have lost some of the energy (speed) of the train....
Energy build up is directional, any change in direction the hands make, (casting out, etc..) energy would be lost.
